Hot and Trending for 2020!

Trending for 2020 – the Go Modern round up!

Our favourite style bibles, Elle Decoration, Living-etc and Pinterest, have pulled together their annual predictions of what’s trending for 2020.  So here are some of the hottest new looks to inspire and delight!

#Arches

We can do arches.  Well Bonaldo can in the shape of their incredible Cabinet de Curiosite by Fabrice Berrux.

Cabinet de Curiosite

If you are lamenting not having any architectural arches at home then Bonaldo’s Cabinet de Curiosite may fill the void for you.

Berrux drew inspiration for Cabinet from his Grandfather’s own bookcase. It was an endless curiosity to him as a child and became the basis of his wonderful new design.  Because of it’s modular set-up and intriguing arches of different sizes, this piece allows you to display any number of favourite ornaments and books.

#Working from home

This has surely been trending for a while but various statistics for 2020 show that the number of us working remotely is definitely on the increase. And apparently the most popular place to work is your sitting room.  As this is also usually your main down-time hang-out zone it’s important to style it carefully. An organised and pleasant set up has surely got to increase productivity – and reduce the feeling that you’re living in the office.

Porada Kepler desk

Go Modern has a fantastic collection of home-office desks and bespoke home-offices. Choose from beautifully stylish desks such as the Porada Kepler, above, to complete ‘work-stations’ which include wall-units, desks, drawers and neat cabling set-ups to hide all the guff that goes with it.

#Pantone and Dulux Colours 2020

We do wonder whether these two organisations ever get their heads together. Most years they manage to achieve some very different predictions – although always beautiful colours in their own right. So this year Pantone has announced that its 2020 Colour of the Year is Classic Blue, a shade reminiscent of the sky at dusk. “It’s a colour that anticipates what’s going to happen next,” said Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Colour Institute.

While paint brand Dulux has selected a cool-tone shade of green, Tranquil Dawn, for its Colour of the Year, which is meant to offer an antidote to an “increasingly disconnected” modern society. Dulux says that Tranquil Dawn “embodies the nation’s mood on the approach of a new decade”.

We love them both – fresh and easy to work with and the colours look fab on the Bonaldo Structure sofa and Zanotta Hotelroyal Plus bed below.

#Velvet

This adored fabric never goes away!  We seem to have mentioned it in trends for… well years!  But it is apparently the most searched for fabric on line.  We all love it.  So velvet proudly takes its place (again) in hot and trending for 2020!

Saba Opium Sofa

The Opium Sofa, above, designed by Sergio Bicego for Saba Italia, is covered in a beautiful lush claret velvet for this shot, but if you are one of the (apparent) few that feel velvet really isn’t your thing, there’s also a choice of dozens of fab fabrics and leathers to play with for this design.

#Rattan and wicker

As we’ve also seen ‘modern Ibiza’ in a ‘trending for 2020’, we wonder if there’s a bit of a boho/70s revival happening in the furniture world.  While rattan and wicker may have echoes of the 70s about it, the modern interpretations are so much cooler.  Plus the extremely high-quality synthetic rattan our specialist outdoor brands work with is superb (and will probably still be looking good in your garden in 2070!).

Point Giro outdoor range

Our wonderful Spanish brand Point (celebrating their 100th anniversary this year) have a wide range of fantastic synthetic rattan furniture. They specialise in stylish all-weather outdoor designs which will withstand extreme temperatures, are UV resistant, rot and fade proof. Who knows what our weather will throw at us in 2020 but, whatever the climate does, Point’s wonderful designs are up for the challenge.

#Statement pieces

This trend can apply to so many pieces from lighting to rugs to… well anything.  However, we definitely veer on the conservative side when it comes to statement pieces.  What one year you might love the next may become the elephant in the room. When it comes to mirrors however we don’t hold back. Interior designers and stylists we work with will often use a large floor to ceiling mirror in a room to not only create a statement but also throw around more light and add depth.

We have a very impressive mirror collection and our specialist glass manufacturer Tonelli Design delights us year after year with their incredible creations.

Tonelli Ozma Mirror

The beautiful Ozma Mirror, above, was created by Viola Tonucci for Tonelli. It’s a large and simply gorgeous concentric wall mirror with a central rim in gilded metal. It measures 100cm x 5cm and the centre piece is removable (we’ve seen it used on a table as a mirrored display piece, with fruit, and it’s stunning).  When the centre piece is removed the words ‘Over the Rainbow’ are displayed on the mirror.

So, there you are.  Six of the many predicted trends for 2020.  Have fun.  Choose wisely and remember the only style you should really care about is your own.  Failing that, chat to one of our design/showroom team who are an incredibly creative bunch, always happy to advise, and with a wealth of design knowledge and expertise between them.
