Porada Eley writing desk
Organised & stylish

Porada’s beautiful Eley writing desk is right at the top of our ‘organised and stylish’ list. Why?  With Porada, everything starts from ‘the love of wood’. For absolute luxury and craftsmanship they’re very hard to beat.

The Eley desk is made in a beautiful canaletta walnut.  Designers, Gabriele & Oscar Buratti, also give you the option of choosing leather fronted drawers or keeping them in a matching walnut.  Hard isn’t it?  And to add to the luxury, the base is in bronzoro metal with feet tips in brushed brass.

Miniforms Jumbo desk
Lightness

Miniforms. What can we tell you about this endlessly fascinating company? Well… they love fooling around. They LOVE a joke.  They seem to have a lightness, a carefree approach to life.  But not to their furniture. They take their furniture VERY seriously.  It was from Miniforms that we picked up this little bit of philosophy we thought we’d share with you:

“Take a light approach to life.  Lightness does not mean being superficial, but gliding above things from on high, not having burdens in your heart”-Italo Calvino

We love that. And at times like this, when so many of us are isolated and working from home, we should perhaps still try to stay carefree (well, carefree and 2 metres apart!). As Miniforms tell us:

“Sometimes you’re serious. Sometimes you’re light-hearted. That’s life. But at least when you’re at home, try to be carefree. Look after your home, choose a nice colour palette, buy flowers to put on the table.  Or a little penguin.”

So enjoy the little things.  We’re still debating the penguin, but Miniforms’ furniture will certainly help. And so will their new Jumbo desk. Fun isn’t it.  Also seriously practical, with a small drawer and a mini ‘privacy’ screen in rose gold or black. The sturdy base is in natural or black Ash.

Gallotti&Radice Tama writing desk
WFH Recommendations

One of the recommendations that makes absolute sense to us is to set boundaries. Remember to keep to a normal office-hours schedule and then switch off;  ‘leave the office’ at the normal time.  But that’s not so easy when your office decides to hang around with you.

So it might help to choose a desk with a ‘discreet’ design.  By which we mean a desk that cleverly and stylishly folds up at the end of the day and sits elegantly in the corner of the room, pretending it has absolutely nothing to do with work.

Someone on our team described the Gallotti&Radice Tama desk as ‘outrageously elegant’.  It is.  This internationally celebrated brand, which began life back in 1955 as a decorative glass studio, has elegance running through its DNA.  And today, the company still uses the same artisanal craftsmanship they set out with (plus a few machines obviously).

This writing desk has a flap-door which folds down to create the writing desk part, and it also includes a stylish grey suede writing pad.  The inner space has a storage box decorated with rhomboidal engraved patterns, and this in turn contains three grey suede storage boxes. Close it up and your office magically disappears for the evening. However, this desk comes with a serious customer warning: you may just want to spend all day looking at it!

Novamobili Ninfea writing desk
Uber contemporary

Yet more ‘working from home’ advice: Go for crisp clean lines, fresh design, and an unfussy and practical space.  It all helps with the creative flow apparently.  If that’s the case then the uber contemporary Ninfa writing desk from Novamobili will seriously open your creative floodgates. The privacy screen at the back also doubles as a pin board – a fab idea for anyone desperate to avoid even more sticky-tape wall marks from countless post-it notes.

Tonelli Strata glass desk
Minimalist

If minimalism is your style, you’ll love the Tonelli Strata glass desk. If, however, you are someone who has no idea what’s lurking at the back of your desk drawer, you probably wont.  The Strata takes minimalism to a new level.  There’s no hiding anything here.

We love it for its clean uncluttered look and the way it encourages a totally paperless office (which is surely how it should be?). And if you are at all worried about how practical/safe a glass desk is – don’t be.  Tonelli Design have been in the business of producing glass furniture since the 1980s.  They are world specialists and the Strata is made from their special shatter-proof tempered glass.  We have had a Tonelli glass dining table in the Go Modern showroom for many years.  And many a customer, and sometimes their children, have tried to put it through its paces.  The table always came out on top.

So stay home, stay safe – and keep the style!  Check out more home-office ideas here.
