Open again + NEW outdoor furniture!

garden furniture

So it appears that over the next few months a great many of us are going to have to spend much more time at home. The official message is to ‘stay home, stay safe’.  Can we find any positives from this? Well, possibly.  We are open online (working remotely) and we’d love to speak to you by phone, email or video.  Samples of any finishes or fabrics you’d like to see can be posted.

We have always been able to advise customers remotely – we’re pretty expert at it (we’ve even successfully fitted wardrobes and wall units without meeting our clients).

Lockdown update

Our Kings Road showroom will be open again on Monday 22nd June. Hooray!  The number of customers will have to be limited, so please call ahead to find the best time for you. And contact us about  delivery dates; the situation is changing all the time but we will endeavour to keep our customers informed. Lots of our garden furniture for example has quick turn-round delivery – do get in touch to find out more.

A bit of philosophy

The weather is fine.  The nights are getting longer. Could it be that, if nothing else, it’s a great chance to spend more time in the garden. As the philosopher Cicero said:

“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need” – Marcus Tulius Cicero

So, you have that great library – the internet, we have the furniture.  Let’s talk garden rooms and comfortable, stylish outdoor furniture.

The garden as another room of the house

We have long championed the idea that the garden should be another room of the house.  Which feels even more important now. Since the beginning we have worked with some of the world’s leading experts in all-weather, high-quality, long-lasting outdoor furniture.  With the kind of style that would look as fabulous indoors as it does out.

Our unpredictable weather

The one thing you can truly rely on in our bit of the northern hemisphere is our unpredictable weather. And lots of it.  The last few years have seen summer heatwaves that sent us all nearly insane, followed by summers of torrential rain that… sent us all nearly insane. Four seasons in one day anyone?

Parasols that have you covered

One of the solutions to the problem is the humble garden parasol.  Or in the case of the parasols we offer – not so humble.

Rain or shine

Our parasols are made by our main garden furniture suppliers plus a wonderful Belgium brand, Symo.

The Gulliver parasol above is a great example of Symo’s output.  It’s a witty, supersized old-fashioned ‘brolly’. The fabric is totally waterproof (just like a real umbrella!) and at almost three metres across it provides plenty of shelter from all the elements.

For a sightly more sophisticated traditional design take a look at Manutti’s Large Round Garden Parasol.

Either one of these parasols will have you covered.

Great art in troubled times

Did you know that Shakespeare apparently wrote some of his best work during England’s 17th Century Plague? Against all odds he survived it as a baby, which possibly gave him immunity, and this terrible pandemic features in some of his most well known works.  It’s the reason Romeo didn’t know Juliet hadn’t died but was only sleeping.  The letter explaining this wasn’t delivered to him because the ‘postman’ got stuck in quarantine.  King Lear, Macbeth, and Antony and Cleopatra – all written when Will decided to stay home and let his travelling theatre company perform in the small English villages that had not been stricken. So, from the depths of tragedy great art did flourish. Get your creative hats on.

Point’s Paralel Outdoor Furniture Collection
Great art and design – always

Which brings us neatly to great design, and the latest garden collection from Point.

The new Paralel collection is simply stunning.  Made from solid, sustainable A-grade teak, and hand-woven rope seats. Designer Gabriel Teixido has created many exceptional designs for Point but this is definitely one of our favourites. There are fourteen separate pieces in the collection including this small table above, perfect for breakfast, or the ideal table on which to place your laptop and create that best-selling novel – or work from home.

Time for lounging
The Elio Collection from Tribù

After your incredible bursts of creativity you’ll need time for some serious lounging. There is definitely a page somewhere on the government website that recommends rest and relaxation as well at this time.  And we have the perfect kit for that – at any time.

The art of leisure

The new Elio garden range is from specialists Tribù. Tribù simply design amazing outdoor furniture. Their marketing strap-line is ‘the art of leisure’.  And in their case they have more than perfected the art.

Elio is the design creation of Yabu Pushelberg for Tribù, a creative design house based in New York and Toronto. They’re also the design team behind the fabulous interiors of new luxury boutique hotel The Londoner, due to open in London’s Leicester Square this summer. We’re told there will also be a great rooftop bar for chilling and taking in London’s skyline. We’ll see you there.

Glamour and style

For the ultimate in glamorous outdoor space, Manutti just keep on wowing us.  Their brand new Flex Collection is a definite contemporary classic with an emphasis on simple elegance.

Manutti Flex Corner Garden Sofa

Metrica Design Studio is the creative team behind the new Flex Collection.  And as the name suggests it is hugely flexible, with modular sections, ‘floating’ tables, and luxuriously deep cushions.  Fabrics and fillings are quick-dry and water-resistant, seams are welded and sewn. We know that Flex will give you many, many years of enjoyment.

You can check out our full garden furniture range here.

Don’t forget, our team is here to help – call or email us.  Our website has in-depth images and lots of information about every design we sell. www.gomodern.co.uk
