#Trending – The Blues

January, it’s said, is the ‘blues’ month.  And it’s also thought that the third Monday of this dreary month is the worst blues culprit.

It was one university professor, Dr Cliff Arnall, who originally gave the month it’s auspicious tile. And it stuck! His formula for this?  Well, it has a number of variables including post holiday fizzle, dreary weather, failed New Year’s resolutions and general lack of oomph.

We don’t believe a word of it.  For one thing our Winter Sale is still on (although be quick, it finishes on the 31st!) – and if our Sale doesn’t cheer you up we’re not sure what will.

‘Classic Blue’ is also Pantone’s Colour of the Year.  So, as we say farewell to January, we’ve curated some fabulous ‘blues’ to help us say goodbye to the dreary one.

Bonaldo Structure Armchair
Blue structure

Alain Gilles’ Structure armchair for Bonaldo is fabulous in any colour but it looks particularly dazzling in this intensely blue fabric, set against a complementing blue wall. Gilles says of his Structure range that he was, “playing with the frame of a classic sofa.  Opening it up to reveal a softer interior and creating a dynamic motion between the seat and backrest”.

Miniforms Dent Pendant Lights
Lighten up

The Dent Pendant Lights from Miniforms are hand-finished in lots of pastels, including the blues above, with ‘intense blue’ and the wonderfully named ‘window grey’. The lights are a great combination of natural wood and ceramic.  Miniforms are loved by everyone for their quirky originality, and we think these lampshades sum that up nicely.

Miniforms Soko Sideboard
Blue on the side

Also from Miniforms is the Soko sideboard with a unique laser-cut jigsaw pattern finish. The image here shows it in ‘intense blue’ but you can also opt for  ‘veronese green’, ‘apricot’, ‘anthracite’or the wonderful ‘marsala red’.

Schoenbuch Grace Drinks Trolley
Elegantly blue

We love this drinks trolley by Sebastian Herkner for German brand Schoenbuch. It’s a combination of cool, elegance, and sophistication rolled into one.  Grace is simply a modern bar trolley that looks terrific anywhere but it take its design cues from the fifties – all curved lines and large wheels. It’s seen here in ‘night blue’ but you can also go for ‘rosewood’ ‘black’ or ‘grey white’.

Bonaldo June Shelves
Seasonal blues

If you are looking for quirky shelving look no further. The June shelves (above) are part of a range called April, May June. They are real statement pieces (we currently have one on display in our Kings Road showroom – go look) and a real focal point in a room.  Buy a single piece or make an even bigger statement with all three.

April, May, June look like silhouette bottles, and designer Gino Carollo says of his unique designs, “…(they’re) a new concept of an object within an object, a range of shelving units with a strong personality.  April, May, June stand out for their bold design and innovative modularity. Not just a bookcase, but an object that lends itself to personal usage interpretations”.  We’ll second that.  Choose from 16 different colours including the stunning blue seen here.

Novamobili Bookcase 05
A touch of blue

A little bit of blue goes a long way. If you don’t want to go all out with it, our modular Bookcase 05 from Novamobili allows you to choose from a variety of matt lacquers for the finish.  This version has seven doors in blue ‘oceano’ with the shelving in a complementing dark grey ‘quarzo’.

So banish those dreary January blues and choose a shade from one of the many variations of this fabulous colour.  Plus… our website has some terrific new filters, including one that will allow you to search for any product by the colour you’re looking for.  Have fun!
