Introducing Zanotta – designs with pedigree

Zanotta Sacco Bean Bag

With over 13 years in the contemporary furniture business we feel pretty much expert when it comes to contemporary design.  It’s our passion. So we are thrilled to announce our latest partnership with one of the standard bearers of modern Italian furniture: ZANOTTA.  Key-players in the early days of non-conformist design. This prestigious company has carved out a premier place in the ranks of contemporary luxury furniture, collaborating with top designers to create icons such as the Maggiolina chair, Reale dining table and Gilda armchair.

Established in 1954 Zanotta has created a wealth of award-winning furniture. In addition, almost a fifth of their designs have also earned a place in many great design museums around the world.

Amongst Zanotta’s latest and exciting launches are three beds, two cool new sofas (plus an exciting update).  Also look out for stylish coffee and side tables and some sophisticated new chairs (including an exciting ‘green’ update for a very iconic design!)

All of Zanotta’s production takes place in their Milanese factory, with the work undertaken by their many skilled crafts-people.  For this reason the company proudly carries the banner “100% Made in Italy”.

Zanotta + Iconic Designs

Because Zanotta has produced so many award-winning designs it’s hard to choose their mascot piece.  But it is perhaps their iconic William sofa by British designer Damian Williams that is best known.

The William sofa is a modern classic.  However, because that’s an overused term we don’t use it very often. But it’s truly deserved in so far as this sofa is concerned.  Its slim classic steel frame is seen here covered in beautiful Italian leather and there are a vast range of other materials to choose from. It’s also a modular design so you can configure it in almost anyway you like.

Zanotta Shiki Sofa

The brand new Shiki sofa is also by Damian Williamson. It’s an incredibly cool monobloc and modular design with removable fabric or leather cushions. Williamson’s latest design was inspired by the simplicity of the traditional Japanese futon; the look suggests a thickly padded ‘mattress’ resting upon an upholstered wood base.  So as you’d imagine, this equals one extremely comfortable sofa.  And above all style x comfort is what it’s all about.

The original Milano sofa first hit the design headlines back in 1982.  Designers De Pas, D’Urbino, Lomazzi have now brought this beautiful sofa into the 21st century with a fabulous modular version, and the addition of a long armchair and rectangular pouf. The seat is divided into vertical bands with parallel stitching.  Rectangular cushions serve as both backrests and armrests. It was well worth the wait; a beautiful new look that’s simply elegant and timeless.

Zanotta Florin Bed

A very pretty new bed, Florin by Roberto Lazzeroni, that has a headboard, frame and feet veneered in open-pore ash, lacquered in shades of ash-grey, mustard or navy blue.  And, always so useful for a headboard, it has removable fabric or leather covers. We love the Far East influence here and the absolute lightness of design.

Graphism x Symmetry = Future Icons

Zanotta’s Graphium Coffee Tables are inspired by two concepts and two natural elements: graphism (the expression of thought in material symbols) and symmetry; marble and tropical butterfly wings. With the combination of these contradictory elements, Zanotta have created two beautiful and unique designs. With their rich marble colour, patterning and beautiful shapes, these tables are destined to join other Zanotta creations as celebrated design icons of the future.

The Zanotta Bean Bag Goes Green*!

Sacco is Italian for sack. In 1968 three young designers from Turin knocked on Zanotta’s door with an intriguing new design. A chair comprising a sack filled with polystyrene beads.  Ergonomic and light-weight, a design that moulds itself to the body.  Any body.  Piero Gatti, Cesare Paolini and Franco Teodoro had a future design icon on their hands: Sacco the first chair without a rigid frame.  The bean bag, as it was nicknamed, became a symbol of the revolutionary 60s, overturning rules and conventions.

This award-winning chair now takes its place in the ‘green revolution’.  50 years on from its creation Sacco is going green in recognition of the need for global change.  From January 2020 all Sacco Bean Bag will incorporate 100% eco-friendly materials for the internal padding and cover, using innovative and sustainable materials.  Still easy on the body and now easy on the planet.  That’s an award-winning combination in our book. *At the moment, Sacco is only available in the UK with the VIP cover due to fire regulations.

Armchairs with Distinction

We love it when we get excited about an armchair.  And we’re excited about this one! It’s the distinctive new Oliva armchair, by Constance Guisset for Zanotta.  Oliva looks like an open shell when viewed from the front.  The legs, like a piercing, extend through the seat cushion before joining the rear legs to create a uniquely distinctive shape.  As an extra bonus the covers are removable and in a choice of many splendid fabrics or leathers.
