Style & Glamour – this Season’s Edit

Tis the season… and design is all about the glamour. Party rules apply so go all out with some high-end style.  For fashionistas it’s sequins and ruffles.  Furniture and accessories, on the other hand, favour metals and mirrored finishes, shimmering crystals and festive fringes.

The glamour of velvet

We love velvet. In our book, there is no finer, more glamorous fabric than velvet.  This beautiful Opera sofa for Vibieffe is hand-made in a solid fir-wood and designed for them by Gianluigi Landoni.  Along with velvet covers there are so many other fabulous fabrics to choose from.  Similarly, Landoni’s beautiful finishing touches include the sofa’s slim base and feet in Canaletto walnut.

Italian style and glamour

The height of glamour and Italian style comes in the shape of luxury brand Gallotti&Radice. Nobody does glamour better.

So feast your eyes on their latest tables, the Haumea coffee tables, designed by Massimo Castagna.  This design includes all the top ingredients on our glamour list.  The cylindrical bases rise elegantly through the clear-glass table tops, with finishes in bright coppered or hand-burnished brass and black chrome.

The cocktail hour

The cocktail cabinet is back.  And how! Consequently the LEMA Winston Drinks Cabinet/Bar is way up there on our glamour hit-list.  It features beautiful Canaletto walnut doors which, once opened, reveal an exquisitely lacquered interior in ombra with leather inserts.  Designed by Christophe Pillet, it takes its inspiration from traditional Chinese furniture.  Discreet and mysterious from the outside and, as with all good things, filled with surprises and fabulous detail.

More party glamour (although why wait for a party?) in the shape of the Madison cocktail cabinet from Bontempi Casa.  A stylish mirrored interior creates a beautifully light and reflective space.  Look out for the solid Canaletto walnut drawers, a bottle rack and wine glasses holder.  The exquisite finishes for this cabinet include lacquered woods or glass, including a superb anti-scratch velvet glass, or the luxurious grey-white Super Marble seen here. Natural silver or aged brass handles and feet complete the look.

Add some sparkle

There is nothing quite like a crystal chandelier to add some sparkle to a room.  Mogg’s Venetian-style Crystal lights by Marcantonio Raimondi Malerba will add sparkle and a touch of urban chic – with a very contemporary twist. These quirky, deliciously glamorous lights can be positioned on the floor, on side tables and cabinets, used as wall lights or simply hung from the ceiling.

And more glamour as the Venetian-style design also cleverly echoes the shape of gemstones.  By contrast, the wooden structure is modelled on ‘transport crates’. Designer Malerba says ‘their delicacy is part of their charm’ and his aim was to create a versatile chandelier for the modern, contemporary home. We’ll raise a glass to that.

Missoni Home Danae fringed Ceiling Light

Missoni Home is well known for its iconic fashion and home accessories. Less well-known but proudly championed by us is their gorgeous collection of furniture, including lighting.

Their Danae Ceiling Light is a simply dazzling, three-tiered fringed masterpiece.  With a full drop height of three meters it looks incredible – perfect in a stairwell or the corner of a room. The shimmering gold fringes are available in two colour variations, both guaranteed to add the wow factor to any room.

So, enjoy the party season – and don’t forget the glamour.
