Trending Now – the future proof sofas everyone loves

Our regular look at what’s trending, the seriously stylish, the most admired by the Go Modern team and, more importantly, loved by our customers. This month: Future proof sofas everyone loves

The incredibly popular Zanotta Milano sofa was first introduced in 1982 and… IT’S BACK!  With a fabulous new interpretation.  And we LOVE it. The Milano+ sofa has a new series of modular elements including a long armchair and a rectangular pouf.  It’s a sofa with wonderfully generous proportions and a seat divided into neat vertical bands. Four rectangular cushions make up the back and armrests. It’s simply timeless and elegant.

One of our all-time favourites is the New York Suite sofa for Saba Italia by Sergio Bicego.  It’s also one of this smart Italian brand’s most sought after designs.  We have one in our Kings Road showroom at the moment and more than a few of our customers have found it a little too enticing to leave once they’ve tried it. The New York Suite is a beautifully modern metropolitan design with a hint of retro elegance, but it’s the deep quilted cushions that keep everyone sitting there for hours.  The smaller version is also perfect for small sitting rooms.

Colour is definitely back in vogue!  But if the bright orange of Alain Gilles’ Structure sofa for Bonaldo is a little too jazzy for you, never fear… there are dozens and dozens of fabrics to choose from or you can supply your own.   We’re also very keen on this ‘ego’ version which has beautifully quilted cushions… but then we love the plain version too. Alain tells us that his ego version references “the graphic structure of large ropes”. It was also chosen by November’s Livingetc magazine as part of its the edited choice’ (high praise!)

Looking for a smart corner sofa?  We’ve got quite a few (150 at the last count!) but the Con Tempo corner sofa for luxury brand Vibieffe is an old favourite. Why?  Well it gets top marks for its classic style and supreme comfort (those enveloping cushions have an extra layer of feathers to lose yourself in!). Plus it’s modular which makes it wonderfully flexible with lots of elements that can be added to create your own bespoke sofa. So top marks all round.

There’s a slightly surreal look to the Lennox sofa designed by Gordon Guillaumier for top Italian brand Lema. The design was inspired by the open petals of a flower. But it’s not so way out that its quirkiness will scare the pigeons.  Alongside its sculptural, elegant good looks are its soft and seductive nest like qualities – it’s the perfect sofa for contemporary interior design. Oh – and the upholstery choices are, of course, endless. So many reasons here to include it in our Future Proof Sofas section.

A cross between a chaise-longue and a sofa – you choose. Saba’s Avant-Apres is another of our favourite modular designs – but this time one with a difference. This sofa has a unique armrest/backrest system that detaches with one simple movement, allowing you to position the elements anywhere along the base.  We think that’s rather clever.  You can also choose to add a small Canaletto walnut side table, as below, or get all creative choosing different fabrics for the armrests or seat back. We loved this sofa when we first saw it in Milan – and it’s no surprise that our customers do too.
