Ceramic Finishes – ‘super-hero’ material

Our regular look at what’s trending, the seriously stylish, admired by the Go Modern team and, most importantly, loved by our customers. Trending now: Ceramic finishes.

Marble v Ceramic

We all love marble.  Its one of our most elegant and timeless materials, rarely unfashionable and always admired.  Unfortunately its reputation as a hard wearing surface material is not always the best.  However, that isn’t to say you should shy away from ever buying it.  With the right love, care and attention marble will always look fabulous and retain its brightness and beauty.

The problem is that as a natural stone marble is relatively soft and porous.  Therefore, it’s fairly easy to scratch and can be susceptible to staining.  You can have it professionally sealed but this is something that needs to be repeated on a fairly regular basis depending on use.

As a consequence, manufacturers have worked very hard to produce a material that genuinely looks as good as marble.  And this is where ceramic finishes come in.  This fantastic new material is a combination of clay and glass that is given a polished marble effect finish.  And the results are impressive. That’s because ceramic finishes are extremely hard-wearing with a strong resistance to scratches and stains.  Plus it’s a non-absorbent material and very easy to clean.

In fact ceramic finishes have proved so successful that manufacturers are now rolling them out across lots of new designs. With some remarkable results.
