Whether you are part of a couple that simply prefers separate beds, or looking for something great for a spare room that isn’t quite large enough for a double/king size bed we have some fantastic single beds. It is quite difficult to find high quality single beds, especially in modern designs, so we think our collection is one of the best. They are all 200cm long, so more than suitable for adults too.
We have a range of upholstered single beds from Bonaldo, a high end Italian manufacturer, that are both contemporary & practical. The range started out as a children’s bed collection, but we are also selling these in grown up colours. As the covers are removable and can be replaced you could buy one for a child & then when your child wants something a bit more grown up just swap the covers over, instead of having to buy them a new bed! The Candy bed below is a great example, it looks great in a children’s bedroom but looks very grown up in different colours – the buttons are optional too.
Is it too early to start thinking about winter fires? Not for us..we like to plan well ahead & so are currently updating our Bioethanol fires section on the website, adding new fires from Cocoon fires, Decoflame & Ecosmart fire.
Go Modern has been selling liquid bio ethanol fires (then known as flueless fires) since 2007 (I think we were the first, but can’t be sure) because as a London based company we would LOVE to have an open fire but know we can’t (it’s not allowed in London) & these really are the next best thing. It’s difficult to explain but the heat is different from central heating or gas fire heat, it spreads throughout the room & is ultra cosy. Simon calls it ‘Ski Chalet’ heat & we now use bio ethanol fires as our sole source of heating at our showroom in winter. Which is pretty cool considering our contemporary showroom is set over three floors & we have large glass skylights in the largest part. Continue reading “Bio Ethanol Fires – Our Winter Heros!”
Spending time in the garden on the weekend made me realise how important keeping plenty of greenery is for the ecosystem, & one of the best ways to do it is with hedges. Apparently all manner of small birds, insects & other forms of life find refuge in them, & they are an important part of the environment. And they go REALLY well with our modern garden furniture. Here’s a site I really like that sells nothing but hedging & has literally every type of plant you can imagine. The prices look very good, & they are experts in it – which for those of us that have zero gardening knowledge is pretty important. www.best4hedging.co.uk.
Did you know we can deliver our contemporary furniture, bio ethanol fires, garden parasols & mirrors outside the UK? We have one warehouse in London, & one in Edinburgh so deliveries to Scotland, including the Highlands are never a problem for us – in fact our lovely Scottish customers are our favourite..but we also deliver to Ireland, the UK Islands, Western Europe (including Switzerland), Scandinavia & other countries. Our logistics manager Mark has years of experience moving opera/ballet companies around the world amongst other things & the carriers we use to pick up our furniture/fires/parasols up from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium & the Netherlands are worldwide carriers so the only thing that stops people becoming customers are the customs/import charges of the countries they live in. We have a large selection of both hinged door & sliding door wardrobes, from Italy but our customers often want to know which they should choose. Well, they both have advantages & disadvantages…
Hinged Door Wardrobes have the largest choice of sizes, & are available in small sizes from 90cm wide up. Their doors usually have handles, many of which are a real design feature, & there is a great choice of colours & textures. Available in a large number of different size increments, these wardrobes can also be fitted into corners, which most sliding door wardrobes don’t do. In addition, they can be less expensive than sliding door wardrobes, especially once you start looking at gloss lacquer or special glass doors. Fitted wardrobes are made by putting ‘filler panels’ of the main wardrobe or door material on the side of your wardrobe so that there are no visible spaces (these will need to be ordered with the wardrobe). Wardrobes with hinged doors can also be cut to fit into angles, for a loft, under the stairs etc.
No contemporary furniture collection is complete without sideboards, which have made a real comeback in the last few years. A great mix of the good looking & useful sideboards are great for virtually any room & are a fantastic way of adding extra storage while upping your interior style quotient. We have always had a large selection of modern, contemporary sideboards (we started with Casabella furniture’s high gloss Lucido collection, back in 2007 & kept going) – we now also have sideboards from Alivar, Bimax, Bonaldo, Europeo, Jesse Furniture, Tema Home & more. All except Tema Home (which is made in Portugal) are made in Italy.
We have a good range of finishes too, including the ever popular white gloss, as well as black sideboards, & sideboards in other matt & gloss lacquer colours, from bold red to the the new dove grey – a subtle alternative to white or cream. Quite a few of our sideboards come in wenge, which is a dark oak stained veneer & Canaletto walnut, a light Italian walnut that looks fantastic in a contemporary room. As there are so many choices our sideboards are usually made to order – so lead times are eight weeks or more.
We have an absolutely enormous range of fitted wardrobes, all from Italy. We have six different modern wardrobe collections, because each range has it’s strengths, & is put together in slightly different size increments. So, for example, if you want a sliding door wardrobe with gloss lacquer doors you will have four different ranges to choose from, one of which will be exactly the right size for your space, even though the wardrobe doors of all four will all be very similar. In addition to different sizes each different range has a few ‘stand out’ door designs, which are completely unique to that range, so we have a lot of really fabulous contemporary designs as well as the (best selling) plain ones. At last! Someone has realised women have more than one handbag & need somewhere safe to keep them! When I say someone, I mean Italian brand Bimax who are often ahead of the curve when it comes to wardrobes. Borrowing from a concept in kitchen design this unit can be added as another slimline cabinet, or incorporated inside the wardrobe (or both if you have too many bags). Its uber space efficient & uses the full depth of the wardrobe – 60cm & is easy to pull out & push in.
Its just the right size too, with each shelf tall enough & deep enough for most bags (& hats) & as each of the shelves also has a ledge handbags will stay safe, stored upright instead of stacked on top of each other.
At Go Modern central we have always focused on wardrobes, & are convinced we have a cracking collection, featuring freestanding & fitted wardrobes from Italian brands Bimax, Jesse Furniture, Europeo, Blog, Tempo & SMA Mobili. We even have children’s wardrobes & walk in wardrobes, with an enormous choice of hinged & sliding door wardrobes in different finishes. To top it all off we have several in house wardrobe designers & one of the best teams of wardrobe fitters in the country.
But wardrobes aren’t seen as ‘exciting’ the way a new, cutting edge contemporary armchair is, & are often overlooked in a contemporary home, with people spending their budget on a beautiful dining table or stunning corner sofa. Houses sometimes have built in cupboards with hanging rails so why would you go to all the trouble of ripping perfectly decent cupboards out & putting a swanky new fitted wardrobe in? And if there are no wardrobes there why not just buy a beautiful French armoire or an inexpensive freestanding wardrobe? Here are some of the reasons why you should set aside some money for a lovely new wardrobe (from us, of course!).. Continue reading “Customised Wardrobes, 5 reasons why they are worth every penny”
One thing we are constantly asked by our customers is how child friendly various items of dining furniture are. No one wants a dining table that will break or have too many sharp edges, which usually rules out glass dining tables – but they also want something that isn’t possible to scratch/leave marks on, which rules out many of our lacquer & wood dining tables!
So when someone showed me a new collection of beautifully designed contemporary dining tables that use a brand new indestructible material that looks a lot like stone/slate/wood I snapped them up! Made in Italy, these table are extending (a big plus), very reasonably priced, & available in great designs & colours with matching child proof, affordable dining chairs.
We have one in our showroom so you can see for yourself how tough this material is. Here are three of my favourite dining tables from this collection, which can be seen here.
