Designed in 1953, the D.153.1 armchair is part of the furniture of Gio Ponti’s private house in via Dezza in Milan. This re-edition is produced by Italian furniture brand Molteni&C and is based on the original drawings from the Gio Ponti Archives.
Covers are available in two-coloured leather, or in “Punteggiato” Rubelli velvet fabric, both styles are highly distinctive. The velvet fabric, originally designed by Ponti in 1934, reinterprets the age-old technique of velvet-weaving, bringing it up to date with contemporary patterns.
For the upholstery you can also choose from the full range of fabrics and leathers in the Molteni&C textile range, or you can provide your own fabric, subject to approval by Molteni. If you would like more information on the Molteni & C fabric collection, please contact our design team who can send out samples and discuss all the options with you in more detail.
Legs are in heat-sealed steel with a satin brass finish. Feet in non-slip plastic.
The Molteni & C D.153.1 armchair forms part of the Gio Ponti collection, an exciting project from Molteni & C to re-issue furniture created by Giovanni Ponti, the great Twentieth century architect and designer. Every piece in the collection carries a serial number and complies with the design and materials in the original Gio Ponti documents. A screen-printed signature of the famous architect is a further guarantee of its origin and authenticity.
The full Gio Ponti collection includes dining tables, sideboards, armchairs, coffee tables, shelving units, rugs and accessories - see related products below.
