The Glas Italia Terraliquida coffee table by Claudio Silvestrin features a striking composition of contrasting materials and forms. The base is a parallelepiped volume crafted from limestone, characterised by a monolithic presence. Its vertical sides are finished with a split-face texture, emphasizing the raw, tactile quality of the stone, while the top surface is flamed, giving it a subtly rough, matt appearance that speaks to its natural origins.
Resting delicately atop this solid base is a transparent extralight glass element, 15mm thick, meticulously joined at 45° angles. The glass, tempered for strength and precision-glued for seamless continuity, introduces a sense of levity and refinement to the composition.
The Terraliquida table eloquently balances opposing forces: the materiality, gravity, and permanence of the stone are set in poetic contrast to the lightness, clarity, and ethereality of the glass - a dialogue between earthbound solidity and elevated transparency.
