The D.150.5 outdoor chaise longue is part of Molteni &C's new garden furniture range, made in solid sustainable teak with waterproof cushions & beautiful outdoor fabrics. Designed by Gio Ponti for the cruise ship Andrea Doria in 1952, the D.150.5 chaise longue is also part of Molteni's Heritage Collection.
The contours of the chaise longue are marked by two distinctive features, the first is the continuous line of the side, which unites the different parts (backrest, seat, armrest, footrest) in a single stroke. The second detail is the corner radius between the seat and the backrest, which is identical to what Ponti stated for the construction notes of the ‘53 Distex, now issued by Molteni as the D.153.1 Armchair - see related products.
A piece of furniture with great craftsmanship, it is evidence of Ponti's classic contemporary design vision. The use of solid natural teak highlights the production merits of high-quality carpentry.
The cushion is made of moulded polyurethane covered in waterproof polyester fibre. The removable cover is in outdoor, draining and weather-resistant fabrics which can be selected in several categories including the Musco collection which was developed in collaboration with Limonta Spa and selected by Marta Ferri. Musco offers seven different monochrome or striped jacquard and bouclé yarns inspired by shades of nature. You can also provide your own fabric subject to approval by Molteni.
Garden furniture is an exciting addition to prestigious Italian modern furniture brand Molteni &C's extensive collection and is only possible after years of research into suitable materials: a knowledge gained in the almost ninety years of the life of the company which was founded in 1934.
