Our Kings Road showroom has a regularly changing display of furniture, including white furniture, plus modern art. The art is beautifully curated by our friends at Tag Fine Arts and one current piece sums up winter. It’s called ‘Balloon’ by Dede Johnston and is over a meter wide, one of five signed editions. The image is from a series entitled ‘The New Wilderness’, a C-type print of a scene from Courcheval, France. It captures the perfect stillness of snow and is wonderfully ethereal. Look carefully. A tiny hot air balloon floats above the clouds, highlighting the scale and beauty of our natural world.
The Kings Road always looks quite magical at this time of year. Shop windows come alive, trees are festooned with lights and there’s a general air of bonhomie. London is the very best place to be (OK we’re a little biased) with so many great events. Kew Gardens is always worth a trip, transformed as it is after dark with more than a million fairy lights. Could you ever tire of productions of the The Nutcracker, while The Old Vic has a new version of A Christmas Carol. There are lots of Christmas Markets too including the Nordic inspired event at the South Bank, where the Thames riverside is also transformed with 1000’s of twinkling, glittering lights and a huge tree.
So to add to the general glamour of the winter season, here are some of our newest designs, with a touch of metallic style to add to the shininess of the season.
‘Feel welcome’ is Schoenbuch’s guiding principle and this superb, luxury German brand is very welcome as part of the newest line-up at Go Modern. We got to know these masters of hallway furniture earlier in the year on a trip to Cologne and we were instantly blown-away by what they produce. If you haven’t come across them before, be prepared to be impressed! The company specialises in uber stylish, modular designs for the hall area, in unique widths and heights, with depths starting from just 20cm, all designed to fit the narrowest of spaces.
Schoenbuch’s designers begin with the knowledge that no two hallways are the same, from city lofts to commercial buildings or the smallest of domestic hallways. The strive to produce perfect capsule furniture collections to suit individual locations. The result: outstanding hallway clothes storage and system furniture alongside smaller accessories such as clever shoe boxes and unusual mirrors. Milan Design Week is one of the highlights of the year at Go Modern. The international furniture show, Salone del Mobile, spread across 20 exhibition halls is packed with exciting new designs and stands that, in some cases, could be theatre sets.
The city of Milan comes alive with visitors (the official figure for the show alone is a staggering 372,151) with pop-up shops, street installations, show room openings and a few cocktail parties thrown in for good measure. And it’s where we see the latest designs from our partners and keep an eagle-eye out for new products that we know our customers will love. If there’s one thing that most of us agree on it’s that our homes never have enough space to store everything. It’s a modern day curse but, as we always try to look for the positive in things, the upside is that contemporary designers produce furniture that creatively uses every last available inch of space, producing designs that, for us, tick all the boxes – beautiful to look at, high quality and very practical too.
So, we’ve pulled together a small selection of some of our latest designs, all of which deserve praise for their quality and creativity – while sharing that great ability to surprise us with their ingenious hidden storage. Continue reading “Surprising Storage”
Italian design has always pushed the boundaries – across fashion, art, architecture… it whole-heartedly embraces the avant-garde. Think of the theatricality of Versace, the revolutionary Renaissance architecture of 15th century Florence or the rebellious drama of Caravaggio.
So when we found brand new Italian furniture and accessories company Mogg, a company representing the best of this Italian tradition, we were more than a little excited! Mogg (MObilli = furniture & OGGetti = objects) was founded by architect Nicola Galbiati in 2012, and his company works with a range of award-winning designers – many established names in their own fields of art, architecture or furniture design – or as Galbiati puts it “partners of vision – crazy dreamers”. Their idea is to “limit the boundaries between art and design” and the result – a collection of exciting new furniture and accessories that we think are not only stunning designs for the home, but true investment pieces for tomorrow. Mirrors are a fantastic way to add a bit of light & sparkle to a room, & if they are contemporary mirrors from Italian brand Tonelli Design then they are beautiful objects in their own right. So, without further ado, here are some of our favourite modern mirrors…not just wall ones either. In fact Tonelli’s full length mirrors are very cool too.
