Our Kings Road showroom has a regularly changing display of furniture, including white furniture, plus modern art. The art is beautifully curated by our friends at Tag Fine Arts and one current piece sums up winter. It’s called ‘Balloon’ by Dede Johnston and is over a meter wide, one of five signed editions. The image is from a series entitled ‘The New Wilderness’, a C-type print of a scene from Courcheval, France. It captures the perfect stillness of snow and is wonderfully ethereal. Look carefully. A tiny hot air balloon floats above the clouds, highlighting the scale and beauty of our natural world.
The organised amongst us (quick straw poll in the office: five out of eleven) have already made plans for Christmas. And it seems that we’re all the same – it’s the perennial problem of space. Particularly extra space at the table for larger gatherings of family and friends. We get lots of enquiries around now for ‘large family-friendly dining tables’ and our conclusion is that most of us are looking for something similar. That is, a table that looks uber stylish, works on a day to day basis with family life (i.e. needs to be near bomb proof) and is also clever enough to accommodate 12-16 people at anyone sitting when you need it to. It’s the reliable work horse of the kitchen/dining room. Unless of course you thought that was you! Continue reading “Stylish, family-friendly dining tables”
The Kings Road always looks quite magical at this time of year. Shop windows come alive, trees are festooned with lights and there’s a general air of bonhomie. London is the very best place to be (OK we’re a little biased) with so many great events. Kew Gardens is always worth a trip, transformed as it is after dark with more than a million fairy lights. Could you ever tire of productions of the The Nutcracker, while The Old Vic has a new version of A Christmas Carol. There are lots of Christmas Markets too including the Nordic inspired event at the South Bank, where the Thames riverside is also transformed with 1000’s of twinkling, glittering lights and a huge tree.
So to add to the general glamour of the winter season, here are some of our newest designs, with a touch of metallic style to add to the shininess of the season.
Autumn is definitely in the air and we’ve also started thinking a little further ahead to Christmas. The season of goodwill – and playing host to a myriad of family and friends. Which is great but, if you are anything like some of us at Go Modern, the perennial problem of where to put everyone/no room at the inn is, well, a perennial one.
So we got to thinking about how we could help and make everyone a little happier. And thus the idea of a special sofabed, exclusive to Go Modern, was born.
The Happy Sofa Bed will, we’re hoping, be the bed of your dreams (and those of your guests). Designed exclusively for us by Italian specialist Vibieffe, Happy is a stylish two-seater sofa that looks for all the world like the up-market, high quality, contemporary sofa that it is. But it’s also so much more.
Yes, we know it’s (mostly) sunny outside and you’re probably (mostly) on holiday… but we thought this might be a good time to start you thinking about CHRISTMAS! The UK press has been thinking about it for the past month or so and all the Christmas summer press shows have already taken place (this is where journalists & stylists rush around central London in the heat, eating mince pies and thinking unseasonable thoughts, all working on their Christmas issues).
So, on to Christmas furniture. Do you remember how last year you swore you wouldn’t host another Christmas without the right size dining table? Well, now’s the time to start looking. We have some fabulous new tables including a masterpiece of design from Alivar, one of Italy’s top brands. The Oblique extends from 200cm right up to 280cm without altering its shape and the legs always stay at the end of the table – so there’s no need to play footsie (unless you want to!).
