Mies van der Rohe (born in Aachen, Germany, in 1886) is best known for his Barcelona chair, however he originally trained as an architect. He went on to become one of the leading exponents of modern architecture and was director of the Bauhaus from 1929 to 1933. In 1937 he moved to Chicago to teach at the city’s Armour Institute of Technology. He designed some seminal buildings in America before he died in 1969.
He sought to create a rational approach that would guide the creative process of architectural design, and is known for his use of the aphorisms "less is more" and "God is in the details".Hois collection of Barcelona & Brno chairs, tables & benches are probably the best known and loved of all of the 'classic furniture' designs.
