FLORENCE KNOLL

Florence Knoll (born May 24, 1917) is an American architect and contemporary furniture designer who studied under the likes of Mies van der Rohe and Eero Saarinen. She was born in Saginaw, Michigan as "Florence Schust" and is known in familiar circles simply as "Shu". In 1943 she joined with her husband Hans Knoll in redirecting Hans's furniture company more toward a modernist, Scandinavian style. After Hans's death, Florence took over as head of Knoll.

As a pioneer of the Knoll Planning Unit, Florence Knoll created what she modestly called the "fill-in pieces that no one else wants to do." She refers to her own line of lounge seating as the equivalent of "meat and potatoes", asserting, "I needed the piece of furniture for a job and it wasn't there, so I designed it."

Go Modern sources Florence Knoll inspired furniture from China (the best of the Chinese, we wont compromise on quality) and we know only too well how vastly different Knoll sofas & chairs can be in quality - which is why our photos are photos of OUR actual Knoll sofas & chairs, we offer a 7 day no quibble return policy (& don't charge for shipping), and we have them on display in our London showroom.

Knoll style sofas & chairs can be difficult to get right, which is why we show you the product you will actually be sent, & allow you to return it if you are not happy! We have the best colours on the market, a perfect soft Ivory, crisp, pure white, dramatic fire engine red, a dark chocolate brown, cognac, and our new tan - a lovely, proper tan with no hint of orange. All of our Knolls are ALL leather, & sides are a single pelt - not a patchwork.
