Designer Furniture at Go Modern Furniture
Designer
furniture is a much mis-used term, covering everything
from bargain basement, mass produced contemporary furniture to top of
the range modern furniture designed by well known designers like Karim
Rashid & Phillipe Starck. We have designer furniture from some of
Italy's most prestigious makers of designer furniture, like Bonaldo,
Jesse furniture,
Alivar, Tonelli,
Driade &
Smania & the reason we call it
designer furniture is because these upmarket
factories to collaborate with the top designers. It is also common
practice for furniture designers to work with more than one company, so
for example we have furniture designed by Karim Rashid in our Tonelli
& Bonaldo ranges, both of whom make beautiful contemporary
furniture, but are unrelated, & make completely different products!
We are often asked why a customer should pay more for a piece of designer furniture, and
the answer is simple. Because it is better
designed. Its easy to make a piece of contemporary furniture, but that
furniture needs to be comfortable & functional. Designers spend a
long time making sure the curves & angles are in exactly the right
place. The other hallmark of true designer furniture is that it never
dates. For example the Saarinen
Tulip table & Eames
lounge chair
both look as current today as they did when they were first designed,
which is a difficult feat to pull off. We work with a number of
different manufacturers of designer furniture, below is a brief
explanation of each.
Alivar - At the top end
of the designer furniture
market sits Alivar.
They have two parts to
their ranges, their Museum Collection consisting of incredible quality
authorised reproductions of design classics, for example the Barcelona
chair & the Saarinen
table (if you are buying classic furniture
Alivar is the
best you will find). Then there is their own collection,
stunning pieces of contemporary furniture by their in house designers
that are well on the way to becoming iconic pieces in their own right,
for example the Boss bed & the Boss sofa. Alivar are based in
italy.
Bonaldo - At the mid-top
end are Bonaldo.
A well established company they have a lot of designer
collaborations, for example the Sym bar stool with Karim Rashid, the
Coco dining chair from Dondoli & Pocci & the Big table by Alain
Gilles. Bonaldo are constantly at the forefront of the furniture
market & every year their collection of sofas, beds, dining tables,
dining chairs, bookcases & coffee tables gets better & better.
Bonaldo are
based in Italy.
Driade - Another company
who collaborate with a number of designers, Driade have two
types of
furniture, iconic garden
furniture in hard wearing polycarbonates &
luxury sofas, tables, beds & chairs. Driade works with
Phillipe
Starck & Ron Arad, two of the biggest names in the designer
furniture market, as well as a number of Japanese designers &
French designers.
Jesse furniture - Jesse furniture are
one of those companies whose collections are always spot on. Every year
they release beautiful new furniture, & every year they are right
on trend. They tend not to collaborate with famous designers but their
in house designers are some of the best. Jesse furniture have
a fantastic range of beds & bedroom
furniture, and also make ultra flexible wall units
& wardrobes.
Their walk
in wardrobes are our most popular. They also have an ever expanding
line of living
room furniture, with some incredible comfortable sofas &
armchairs, as well as stylish coffee tables.
Tonelli Design - Tonelli Design
are masters in working with glass & their mirrors & dining
tables are much copied. But what can't be copied is Tonelli's quality,
which is outstanding. Tonelli Design
work with Karim Rashid, Giulio Mancini & others to create stunning wall
mirrors, full
length mirrors, glass dining tables, glass coffee tables, &
even glass sideboards. They have perfected some revolutionary
techniques in glass furniture & are based in Italy.
