TULIP DINING CHAIR
The son of a celebrated Finnish Architect, sculptor and architect Eero Saarinen (1910-1961) was a proponent of the organic style. With the observation that “the underside of typical chairs and tables makes a confusing, unrestful world,” Eero Saarinen set out to distill modern dining designs into sculptural, holistic structures.
The result was his pedestal collection (1956), named for the designs’ exquisite cast aluminum bases. Winner of the 1969 Museum of Modern Art Award, the Tulip is Saarinen's genius solution to clearing up what he saw as the "slum of legs" that populates the under-carriage of most dining sets.
Our version of this classic Dining Chair is made in Italy, and has a laquered cast aluminium base, with comfortable fiberglass shell seats that swivel. The seats also have a reinforced bonded finish which will maintain its glossy perfection through years of use. Seat cushions are available in either leather (Black, Pale Blue, Cream, Lime Green, Red, White, Chocolate, or Tan) or fabric (Red or Black).
