Swiss born Architect Le Corbusier (1887 – 1965) is without a doubt one of the most influential and most admired architects of the twentieth century. With his innovative visions for the home, he became an important figure of the Modernist era.
The LC4 Chaise Longue, designed in 1928 and by Le Corbusier dubbed the “relaxing machine,” is a lounge that mirrors the body’s natural curves while appearing to float above its supports. A tubular bow-shaped frame holds a bed of leather atop a black powder coated steel base. The moveable frame adjusts along the base from upright to full recline with ease, anticipating later ergonomic furniture.
