Arne Jacobsen (1902 – 1971) was a Danish Jewish architect and designer, exemplar of the "Danish Modern" style. He began training as a mason before studying at the Royal Danish Academy of Arts, Copenhagen where he won a silver medal for a chair that was then exhibited at the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Art Decoratifs in Paris.
Jacobsen embraced a functionalist approach from the outset. He was among the first to introduce modernist ideas to Denmark and create industrial furniture that built upon on its craft-based design heritage. Jacobsen’s work remains appealing and fresh today, combining free-form sculptural shapes with the traditional attributes of Scandinavian design, material and structural integrity.
Go Modern has excellent leather and cashmere wool versions of both the famous Egg chair, and the Swan chair, made to the correct dimensions in a great variety of colours. The leathers are soft, supple Italian aniline used especially for these two products - a classic red or black, chocolate brown (the 'original' chocolate, lighter thyan our usual chocolate) Ivory, pure white, cognac, and our new tan - a lovely, proper tan with no hint of orange.
