We LOVE storage beds. They are so easy to use (our Italian ones with the fancy German gas powered mechanism are anyway), you can use them when the bed is fully made up & they provide a (on average) a 150/160/180cm x 200cm x 25cm storage space, which is a LOT more than a couple of drawers in a divan base. If you are a Londoner the idea of so much extra storage is extremely tempting. Which is why we have a good choice of different storage beds here, & have just added 2 new storage beds from Bonaldo’s new collection & two new from Europeo’s range. Here they are…
The Campo storage bed from Bonaldo is brand new for 2012, & has really interesting stitching around the edges. Also available without storage here.
I love the loosely fitting linen covers on the Too Late storage bed. It is also available as a non storage bed here.
The Atlante storage bed from Europeo has an adjustable headrest, just the thing for sitting up in bed to watch TV/work/read. Also available with legs here.
Great value at just £1390 the Callia storage bed from Europeo has a nicely shaped headboard & a great choice of fabrics for the upholstery. There is also a Callia bed without storage here.
So how exactly do storage beds work? Annoyingly we have very few photos of the storage base/storage mechanism. This is an example of what the storage mechanism looks like, but the outside of the base may be different on different beds. For example the Campo storage bed looks exactly like the Campo upholstered bed, but has the lift up slats.
This is an example of a storage base, & each storage bed base will look different on the outside (the Campo storage bed is identical to the upholstered bed for example) but the mechanism will be almost exactly the same. The end can be lifted right up & there is a bottom on the base so things are not sitting on the floor.
